Giants Begin Three-Game Series Against Bakersfield Tonight
The San Jose Giants continue their homestand this evening with the opener of a three-game series against the Bakersfield Blaze at Municipal Stadium. Andrew Leenhouts is slated to make the start on the mound for San Jose tonight. Leenhouts, a 23rd round pick of the San Francisco Giants in the 2012 draft, joined San Jose from Extended Spring Training on June 1. This evening marks Leenhouts’ second start with the SJ Giants. Leenhouts was a Northwest League All-Star with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (Short-Season level) in 2013.

Split Versus Mavericks
The Giants split a four-game series with the visiting High Desert Mavericks to open their homestand. Both of San Jose’s wins in the series came in 13 innings: 3–2 on Thursday and 6–4 yesterday afternoon. High Desert claimed victories of 5–1 and 10–2 on Friday and Saturday respectively. Saturday’s loss was the Giants’ largest margin of defeat in a home game this season.

Walk-Off Home Run
Seth Harrison’s game-winning homer yesterday marked San Jose’s first walk-off home run this season. It was the Giants’ first walk-off home run since Blake Miller hit an 11th-inning grand slam to beat Stockton on May 22, 2014. San Jose has now posted four walk-off wins this season, including both victories during the current homestand.

At Muni
The Giants are 11–3 in their last 14 home games dating back to May 8 (after starting the year 4–10 at home). San Jose won a season-high eight consecutive home games from May 19-June 4.

Extras
Yesterday’s 13-inning contest matched the Giants’ longest game of the season (third time). San Jose has played three 13-inning games in the last nine days (May 30 at Inland Empire, June 4 vs. High Desert and yesterday). The Giants are 4–3 overall this season in extra-inning games.

Cole Ranks Second In Hitting
Outfielder Hunter Cole ranks second in the California League with a .329 batting average this season. Cole has multi-hits in 12 out of his last 23 games. He’s posted monthly batting averages this season of .310 in April, .346 in May and .286 thus far in June. Cole also leads the Giants in triples (3) and on-base percentage (.395), is tied for second in RBI’s (24) and third in doubles (10).

Improving Record
The Giants are 12–6 in their last 18 games after starting the season with a 12–26 record.

Arroyo’s Return Bolsters Offense
Shortstop Christian Arroyo was activated off the disabled list on May 30 and is 12-for-38 (.316) with two doubles in eight games since his return. Arroyo was originally placed on the DL on April 16 (oblique). Arroyo was San Francisco’s first round pick in the 2013 draft (25th overall selection). In 15 games this season, he’s batting .318 with six doubles, two home runs and seven RBI’s.

On The Mound
The Giants’ 3.73 team ERA currently ranks second in the California League. San Jose is also third in the league in strikeouts (512). Individually, Chase Johnson is fifth in the league in ERA (2.80) while Dan Slania is second in saves (10). The Giants bullpen has posted a stellar 3.22 ERA this season.

Versus The North
The Giants are only 10–20 (.333) against North Division teams this season compared to 14–12 (.538) against clubs from the South. San Jose is 2–6 overall against Bakersfield having dropped three out of four games to the Blaze in both of their previous series’ (April 16–19 at Municipal Stadium and April 23–26 at Sam Lynn Ballpark).

Trouble In The Field
The Giants have committed 71 errors this season — tops in the California League. San Jose had eight errors during their four-game series versus High Desert. The Giants’ 49 unearned runs allowed this year are tied for the second-most in the league.
